Elegant Handwoven Khesh Cotton Saree with Hand Kantha work

Handloom cotton Khesh Kantha saree with Kantha hand embroidery. The saree has intricate kantha floral motifs. The entire body of the saree has Kantha embroidered floral motifs. Khesh sarees are highly sustainable as the strips of unsold sarees are reused to weave a new saree.  It has a running blouse piece on the inside with a pretty line of kantha work which can be used for the blouse.

A little about Khesh:

The khesh weaving process is simple. The warp is with new yarn and the weft is with strips of thin cloth obtained by tearing old sarees length-wise.

Many of the traditional weavers in Birbhum who have learnt the craft from their fathers agree on the fact that the technique of weaving with shreds of old sarees, called “khesh”, was started in Shilpa Sadan in the early 1920s. This was the vocational training centre that Rabindranath Tagore had set up in Sriniketan, adjacent to Santiniketan which was where his academic institute, Visva Bharati was set up.

 

Washing and maintenance Instructions :

Dry Clean for first 2 washes, can be followed by mild handwash..
